In the Clothing Outreach, hundreds of people are given clothing, free, throughout the year, and on occasion, we hold a public outreach where folks can just come and pick through boxes of clothing to find what they want. We've done this on average twice a year since Fall of 2007.
Lately we've noticed, however, that we do not have enough people to maintain integrity at these public outreaches, and are concerned that there may be legal ramifications of such large gatherings. So we have partnered with another local ministry that distributes clothing in a much more orderly manner. Their distribution center is right in the middle of all this action, so it is also more convenient for the recipients.
In the past, the clothing outreach has been targeted for the refugee population in our area. The last one, however, was aimed at any people who were in need, even if they were not foreigners here on refugee status. Our concern for all of the needy was met by God's provision of greater amounts of clothing. That most recent public outreach took place on Memorial Day, 2010 on two apartment lots on Boston Street.
